The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has allocated ₹5858.60 crore to 14 states severely affected by floods, heavy rainfall, and landslides during this year's south-west monsoon. The funds, released as a central share from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and as an advance from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF), are intended to support relief efforts in these disaster-stricken regions.
Key recipients include Maharashtra, which received ₹1492 crore, followed by Andhra Pradesh with ₹1036 crore, and Assam with ₹716 crore. Other allocations include ₹655.60 crore to Bihar, ₹600 crore to Gujarat, ₹189.20 crore to Himachal Pradesh, ₹145.60 crore to Kerala, and smaller amounts for Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Telangana, Tripura, and West Bengal.
This financial assistance underscores the Modi government's commitment, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, to stand in solidarity with states affected by natural disasters. In addition to monetary support, the central government has provided essential logistical assistance, including NDRF deployments and Army and Air Force support.
Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) were dispatched to several affected states, including Assam, Mizoram, Kerala, Tripura, Nagaland, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Manipur, to conduct on-the-spot assessments of damages. Additional IMCTs will be sent to Bihar and West Bengal for further evaluations.
The Modi government has already disbursed over ₹14,958 crore to 21 states in 2024, including ₹9044.80 crore from the SDRF, ₹4528.66 crore from the NDRF, and ₹1385.45 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF). These efforts aim to alleviate the hardships faced by citizens and bolster state-level disaster response and recovery initiatives.
