In a landmark event, 217 personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were promoted from their positions as sweepers and peons to higher ranks. Marking a significant first in the history of the paramilitary force, the 'rank piping' ceremonies took place at various CRPF offices, including a notable event at the Delhi headquarters on Monday.
This major step follows the Union government's recent approval to promote around 2,600 personnel within the ministerial cadre of the CRPF, which includes sweepers, cooks, and water carriers, roles fundamental to the daily operations of the force.
CRPF Director General A D Singh, along with senior officers, participated in the promotion ceremony, acknowledging the essential contributions of these personnel in maintaining national security. The 217 promoted staff now advance from the rank of constable to head constable.
