The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday executed searches across multiple districts in West Bengal as part of an investigation into an alleged conspiracy by the banned CPI (Maoist) group. An official statement confirmed the operations.

NIA teams carried out extensive searches at the residences of suspected overground workers in 11 locations across South 24 Parganas, Asansol, Howrah, Nadia, and Kolkata. Items seized included incriminating documents, electronic devices, pamphlets, magazines, and handwritten letters.

The investigation seeks to dismantle a plot by CPI (Maoist) members to revive and expand their influence in Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and other northern and eastern states of India. So far, six individuals, including prominent CPI (Maoist) figures such as Prashant Bose, Pramod Mishra, and Sabyasachi Goswami, have been apprehended in this case, registered in April 2022 at the NIA police station in Ranchi.
