In a significant move, the Union Home Ministry has allocated Rs 5,858.60 crore to 14 states severely impacted by recent floods, officials revealed. The funds are distributed from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and as an advance from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).
This allocation includes Rs 1,492 crore for Maharashtra, Rs 1,036 crore for Andhra Pradesh, and several other substantial amounts for Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, West Bengal, and Telangana, among others. The funds aim to mitigate the devastation caused by the monsoon season's heavy rains, floods, and landslides.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized their commitment to standing by the states during natural calamities. Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) have been dispatched to assess damages on-site in multiple affected states. Following these assessments, additional financial aid will be approved based on the reports. Over Rs 14,958 crore has already been released this year to support affected regions.
