A coordinated operation involving the Limpopo Provincial Organised Crime Unit, Limpopo Provincial Flying Squad, and Lebowakgomo police led to the discovery of a major drug lab in Makotse village, Lebowakgomo, on Sunday. Authorities seized drugs valued at approximately R4 million and arrested three suspects, aged between 25 and 33.

Police uncovered a large quantity of mandrax at the suspects’ residence, along with a nearby drug manufacturing facility containing chemicals and substances used for drug production.

“The SAPS Forensic Science Laboratory has been notified and is investigating the drug lab further, with security measures in place until the investigation concludes,” police said in a statement.

Limpopo’s Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police, Major General Samuel Manala, praised the collaborative efforts of the law enforcement agencies, stating that this operation is a critical step in combatting drug-related crimes in the province.

The suspects appeared before the Thabamoopo Magistrate's Court on Monday, facing charges of possession and dealing in drugs. Their case has been postponed to 7 October 2024 for a formal bail application.
