German authorities have arrested a Chinese national accused of passing information on a major air freight hub to a man suspected of spying for China, prosecutors announced Tuesday.
The woman, identified as Yaqi X. under German privacy rules, was apprehended in Leipzig on Monday. She is suspected of collaborating with a Chinese intelligence service, providing crucial details about flights, freight, including military equipment, and passengers.
Yaqi X. worked for a logistical services company at Leipzig/Halle Airport, primarily known as a cargo hub. Prosecutors allege that between August 2023 and mid-February, she repeatedly shared sensitive information with Jian Guo, a German national arrested in April. This information included details about the transport of military equipment and individuals connected to a German defense company.
Yaqi X. has been ordered into custody pending a potential indictment. Her apartment and workplace were searched. Prosecutors previously stated that Guo is accused of working for Chinese intelligence and passing on information from the European Parliament, as well as monitoring Chinese dissidents in Germany.
