Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar conducted an aerial survey on Tuesday of the flood-affected areas of the state. Flooding occurred following water release from a Nepalese barrage.
Kumar, joined by Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and Disaster Management's Additional Chief Secretary Pratyay Amrit, reviewed the ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts across a dozen districts along the Gandak and Kosi rivers.
Officials have been instructed to prioritize providing essentials such as food, medicines, and polythene sheets to those affected. Kumar also suggested air-dropping supplies in inaccessible areas, with assistance from the Indian Air Force. He emphasized maintaining hygiene, proper lighting, and the creation of temporary sanitation facilities and community kitchens in relief camps.
Around 10 lakh people in 16 districts have been impacted by the flooding, caused by the release of millions of cusecs of water by Nepal following heavy rainfall. No fatalities have been reported, though breaches in embankments remain a major concern.
