In response to escalating violence in Lebanon, the UK government has chartered a flight to evacuate British nationals. The announcement, made by Foreign Secretary David Lammy, follows the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Israeli airstrikes on Beirut.
The chartered flight will depart from Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport on Wednesday. British nationals, along with their spouses and children, are eligible, provided they pay a fee of GBP 350 per seat. The evacuation effort underscores the urgent need for British nationals to leave Lebanon as the situation remains volatile.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer had earlier urged British nationals to leave Lebanon immediately. The UK is also advocating for a ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel, emphasizing the need for a political solution. Additional support has been provided by deploying British troops and officials to Cyprus and Lebanon.
