In a strong statement on Tuesday, Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud expressed disapproval of the practice where different lawyers repeatedly mention the same case for urgent hearings. He emphasized that this tactic jeopardizes his personal credibility.
Chandrachud pointed out this method is often used by lawyers attempting to circumvent court procedures. 'Stop this practice of repeated mentioning by different counsels. All of you are just trying to take a chance,' he asserted.
His comments were made at the start of the day's proceedings, specifically addressing a lawyer mentioning a mining lease case for urgent listing. 'I will not do it. Because my personal credibility is at stake,' Chandrachud emphasized.
