Russia has announced it will not sign a new treaty with the United States to replace the agreement limiting strategic nuclear weapons set to expire in 2026, as reported by the Izvestia newspaper.
This decision follows President Vladimir Putin's 2023 suspension of Russian participation in the New START treaty, citing U.S. support for Ukraine. Despite the suspension, both nations have adhered to the warhead, missile, and bomber limits outlined in the agreement.
A senior Russian source underscored that Washington's actions led to the suspension and stated that signing a new agreement would only serve American pride, thus confirming there would be no replacement for the New START treaty.
