Rahul Gandhi termed the detention of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and other Ladakhis as 'unacceptable' on Tuesday. He stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would have to listen to Ladakh's voice.
Approximately 120 Ladakh residents, including Wangchuk, were detained by Delhi Police as they marched to the national capital demanding Sixth Schedule status for their Union Territory. Gandhi voiced his discontent on X, questioning why elderly citizens were detained for advocating Ladakh's future.
In an Instagram post, Wangchuk shared visuals of their buses stopped at Delhi's border by a significant police presence. Wangchuk described how their group was initially mistaken about being escorted, only to realize they were being detained. He mentioned that about 1,000 police officers were deployed at the Delhi border, indicating a heavy security presence.
