Three accused, including a former in-charge of the Korantadih police outpost in Ballia, surrendered in a Varanasi court on Monday in an extortion racket case on the UP-Bihar border within the Narhi police station area.

All three were placed in judicial custody for 14 days, according to a police officer.

Suspended sub-inspector Rajesh Kumar Prabhakar, along with two other accused, Praveen Rai alias Golu and Chandan Yadav alias Tanman, surrendered in the Anti-Corruption Court of Varanasi, said Ballia Superintendent of Police Vikrant Vir.

He stated that 29 individuals, including 24 named accused and five other suspects identified during the investigation, are in judicial custody.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, Azamgarh Range, Vaibhav Krishna, had reported on July 25 that the Additional Director General of Police, Varanasi Zone, and the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Azamgarh, had dismantled an extortion racket targeting vehicles. Two policemen and sixteen middlemen were arrested.

The police had then arrested Narhi police station in-charge Panne Lal. All police personnel at the Korantadih police post and the Narhi police station in-charge were suspended.
