The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has started demolishing unauthorized sections of a mosque in Dharavi, Mumbai, officials from the mosque's managing trust announced Monday.
A report detailing the demolition process has been submitted to the BMC, an official remarked to PTI. Surrounded by slums, the demolition is expected to take some time.
On September 21, hundreds of locals blocked the 90-feet arterial road in Dharavi to obstruct the BMC team. Talks between mosque trustees and BMC officials led to a written request seeking four to five days to remove the illegal portions. An incident of stone-pelting on a BMC vehicle during the protest resulted in an FIR under various acts, according to authorities.
