A 20-year-old law student died after allegedly jumping from her eighth-floor apartment in Delhi on Monday, police authorities disclosed.

The student, who was studying law in a Delhi college, had been receiving treatment for mental health issues, according to statements from her family, the police said.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Sahibabad) Rajneesh Kumar Upadhiyai confirmed, "The law student lived with her parents in a local housing society. On Monday, she jumped off the apartment and succumbed to her injuries."

He further mentioned that the parents informed the police that she had been suffering from depression for about one-and-a-half years and was consulting NIMHANS (National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences) in Bengaluru for treatment.

Despite the parents' initial reluctance, the police sent her body for a post-mortem examination citing it as an accidental death case. The law enforcement officers also verified documents related to her treatment to confirm her mental health struggles.

The police have indicated that further legal proceedings in the case are underway.
