Kolkata Man Arrested for Rape and Deception of Fashion Designer Over 12 Years

A 43-year-old man from Kolkata, identified as Santosh Kumar Shaw, was arrested for allegedly raping and deceiving a fashion designer over a period of 12 years under the promise of marriage. Shaw also controlled her bank accounts and left her financially strained. She discovered he was married and filed a complaint. Shaw faces multiple charges under the IPC.

In a shocking incident, a 43-year-old man from Kolkata has been arrested for allegedly raping a fashion designer over a period of 12 years under the false pretense of marriage, police stated on Monday.

Identified as Santosh Kumar Shaw, the accused reportedly took money from the woman to buy a car and controlled her bank accounts. The victim, who has two children, discovered he was married only after moving to Kolkata with him.

According to the victim's lawyer, Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh, Shaw spiked her drink during a visit to Kolkata in 2024 and raped her, prompting her to file a police complaint. Shaw has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for rape, cheating, criminal breach of trust, unnatural sex, among other offences.
