A Kolkata court on Monday extended the judicial custody of the former principal of RG Kar Hospital and a suspended police officer till October 4, in connection with the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the state-run facility.
The court ordered the CBI to interrogate Sandip Ghosh and Abhijit Mondal, the suspended officer-in-charge of Tala Police Station, in jail. The CBI had requested a three-day custody, but the court ruled for in-jail interrogation. The court also allowed CBI to ask for further court orders if the accused did not cooperate.
Earlier this month, the CBI arrested Mondal and added evidence tampering charges against Ghosh. Mondal is also accused of delaying FIR registration and other related offences. The trainee doctor's body was discovered in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.
