The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is set to recover over Rs 4.55 lakh from Delhi University for removing illegal hoardings, posters, and banners that defaced public property during the students' union elections.

According to a status report, the MCD deployed a team of 37 workers and four trucks over 11 days from September 13 to September 26 to clear the defacement. The civic body incurred Rs 1,53,120 on trucks and Rs 3,01,994 on labor for the cleanup.

The Delhi High Court has mandated that Delhi University bear these expenses, and the university is expected to recover the costs from the candidates responsible. However, there has been no response from the university on their recovery plan, nor from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation regarding their incurred costs.

The declaration of the DUSU election results remains stalled by the court until the defacement issue is resolved. Results were initially due on September 28 but are now likely delayed until October 21, pending the court's next hearing. Chief Election Officer Satyapal Singh confirmed that the university would comply with the court's order and will not seek an exemption. Security surveillance is in place for the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) until results are declared.
