The Supreme Court on Monday provided interim protection from arrest to Malayalam film actor Siddique in a rape case while instructing him to cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
A bench comprising Justices Bela M Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma issued notices to the Kerala government and the victim, demanding their responses within two weeks. This follows Siddique's plea against a Kerala High Court order denying him anticipatory bail.
The case has seen significant debate over the delay in complaint registration while reflecting broader issues of harassment in the Malayalam film industry, highlighted by the Justice Hema Committee report.
