Sudanese Army Denies UAE Claims Amid Ongoing Conflict
The Sudanese army has rejected accusations by the UAE regarding a bombing at the residence of its ambassador, blaming the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces instead. Amid ongoing conflict, the Sudanese foreign ministry has condemned these allegations as false. The UAE has denied supporting RSF despite credible reports to the contrary.
The Sudanese army on Monday refuted allegations made by the United Arab Emirates, which claimed that a Sudanese military aircraft had bombed the residence of the UAE ambassador in Khartoum. The army instead pointed the finger at the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Sudan's foreign ministry criticized what it termed as 'false allegations' from the UAE. According to a statement, the Sudanese military described these actions as 'shameful and cowardly,' attributing them to the RSF. The Sudanese army has recurrently accused the UAE of providing arms and support to the RSF in the country's 17-month-old conflict, though the Gulf state has denied these allegations.
U.N. sanctions monitors have called the claims of UAE's military backing of the RSF credible. The conflict, which began last April, has led to a humanitarian crisis with nearly 25 million people requiring aid and 8 million displaced. The UAE's foreign ministry stated that the recent attack caused extensive damage to its ambassador's residence.
