Outgoing NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called on NATO nations to intensify their military aid to Ukraine despite President Vladimir Putin's alarming nuclear rhetoric. Speaking to Reuters, Stoltenberg referred to Putin's declaration that Russia could resort to nuclear weapons if faced with conventional missiles.
Responding to whether Ukraine should be permitted to target Russian locations, Stoltenberg noted that Moscow has persistently tried to thwart Western military support without success. He emphasized that NATO had observed no shifts in Russia's nuclear posture necessitating changes from the alliance.
Stoltenberg warned that a victory for Putin in Ukraine would embolden future threats to NATO allies. While acknowledging the complexities of providing military aid, he stressed that the West must support Ukraine until Russia accepts its sovereignty and independence.
