The United Nations in India has signed a joint Non-Discrimination Statement on Employment of Persons with Disabilities, reaffirming its commitment to inclusivity, human rights, and an equitable work environment. UN agencies will operationalize this statement through the leadership of Heads of Agencies and Human Resource Officers.

As part of this initiative, the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Resident Coordinator organized a Disability Inclusion Week from 23-26 September 2024, offering specialized training to 73 UN staff across agencies. The sessions aimed to improve understanding of disability issues and foster accessible workplaces for people with disabilities.

The training, tailored for different UN groups, involved interactive and participatory learning. For Heads of Agencies, the focus was on recognizing barriers faced by persons with disabilities and exploring strategies for inclusive hiring.
