A 22-year-old man was arrested in Charbagh for allegedly possessing counterfeit Indian currency totaling Rs 1.97 lakh, according to the police.

The accused, Amir Khan from Bareilly, was detained by the Government Railway Police (GRP) at the Charbagh railway station. He was on a journey from Malda, West Bengal to Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh when caught. The police seized 394 counterfeit notes, each with a face value of Rs 500.

During interrogation, Amir revealed he worked at a footwear shop in Madanpur Khadar, Delhi, and resided in Sarita Vihar. Amir stated he was introduced to the counterfeit currency business by a friend's uncle who offered him Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 for delivering parcels. However, Amir was apprehended before completing his task. A case has been filed under Section 179 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the accused has been sent to judicial custody while further investigations are ongoing.
