Russia Launches Waves of Drone Attacks on Kyiv
Early Monday, Russia initiated multiple drone attacks targeting Kyiv, resulting in prolonged air defense efforts. Witnesses reported numerous blasts. Several enemy UAVs hovered near the capital, with no immediate reports of damage or casualties. Previously, Moscow targeted Ukraine's infrastructure, causing civilian casualties.
Early Monday, Russia launched several waves of drone attacks targeting Kyiv, leading to hours of engagement by air defense units, as per Ukraine's military.
Reuters' witnesses reported hearing numerous blasts in Kyiv, indicative of active air defense systems, and saw objects being intercepted mid-air. Kyiv, along with its surrounding region and the entire eastern part of Ukraine, was under air raid alerts from around 1 a.m. on Monday (2200 GMT on Sunday).
'Several enemy UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) are over and near the capital,' stated Kyiv's mayor, Vitali Klitschko, on the Telegram messaging app. Ukraine's air force reported earlier on Telegram that multiple groups of Russian drones were heading towards Kyiv and western Ukraine. They also detected the launch of several guided bombs from Russian-controlled parts of Ukraine at around 04:40 a.m. (0140 GMT).
Moscow has yet to comment on the situation. Throughout September, Moscow has conducted numerous air attacks on Kyiv and Ukraine, mainly targeting energy, military, and transport infrastructures, resulting in dozens of civilian deaths. As of now, there are no immediate reports of damage or injuries from the latest attacks.
