U.S. Confirms American Weapon Used in Nasrallah Strike
Senator Mark Kelly confirmed that Israel used a U.S.-made Mark 84 guided bomb to kill Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut. Israel's military targeted Nasrallah's command headquarters. The Pentagon has not commented, but Kelly highlighted the increasing use of such munitions in modern warfare.
Senator Mark Kelly revealed on Sunday that the bomb used by Israel to kill Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut was a U.S-made guided weapon. During an interview with NBC, Kelly, who chairs the Senate Armed Services Airland Subcommittee, identified the weapon as a 2,000-lb Mark 84 series bomb.
"We see more use of guided munitions, JDAMs, and we continue to provide those weapons," Kelly remarked, referring to Joint Direct Attack Munitions. He specified that the Mark 84 bomb was used to execute the strike on Nasrallah. The Israeli military confirmed Nasrallah's elimination at the group's central command headquarters but declined to specify the weaponry involved. The Pentagon has not provided a comment.
JDAM technology transforms conventional unguided bombs into precision-guided munitions using fins and a GPS system. The U.S. remains a steadfast ally and primary arms supplier to Israel.
