Israeli Strikes Hit Houthi Targets in Yemen Amid Rising Tensions
Israel launched airstrikes on Houthi targets in Yemen following missile attacks on Israel by Houthi militants. The attacks focused on key infrastructure in Hodeidah, resulting in widespread power outages. The confrontation is the latest in a series of escalations involving Houthi militants, who have been supported by Iran.
In a significant escalation, Israel launched targeted airstrikes on Houthi-controlled regions in Yemen on Sunday. This came after Houthi militants fired missiles towards Israel over the previous two days. The Israeli military disclosed that the targets included power facilities and a sea port situated at Ras Issa and Hodeidah.
As a result of the strikes, Hodeidah experienced major power outages, according to local residents. The Israeli military highlighted in a statement that the Houthis have been acting on Iran's direction and support, alongside Iraqi militias, to destabilize Israel, disrupt regional stability, and hinder international navigation freedom.
The Houthi attacks, particularly since the Gaza conflict ignited with a Hamas assault on Israel on Oct. 7, have included missile and drone launches. Notably, a ballistic missile aimed at Ben Gurion International Airport was intercepted by Israeli defenses on Saturday. Additionally, the Houthi group expressed grief over the death of Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, following his demise in an Israeli airstrike on Beirut.
