Pope Francis Condemns Disproportionate Military Actions in Latest Israeli Airstrikes
Pope Francis criticized the recent Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon that killed Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and non-combatants, describing such military actions as immoral. He emphasized that even in war, there is a necessity for morality and proportionality. Francis regularly calls for an end to conflict, particularly highlighting the Israeli-Palestinian situation.
In a pointed rebuke on Sunday, Pope Francis condemned Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon that resulted in the death of Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and several non-combatants, calling such military actions 'beyond morality.'
Speaking onboard a flight back to Rome from Belgium, the head of the Catholic Church stressed that military force must remain proportionate to the threat. 'Even in war there is a morality to safeguard,' he declared, cautioning against disproportionate military responses.
The 87-year-old pontiff, who has been vocal about Israel's nearly year-long conflict with Hamas, urged the international community to act swiftly to stop the violence, highlighting the death toll among Palestinian children in Gaza. Francis also mentioned his daily communications with a Catholic parish in Gaza, sharing the dire conditions and cruelty reported by parishioners on the ground.
