Diplomatic Path Urged Amid Rising Tensions Between Israel and Hezbollah
White House spokesman John Kirby emphasized the importance of diplomacy over war for Israel to ensure safe return for displaced people in the north. Israel's military actions against Hezbollah in Lebanon have escalated tensions, with the U.S. closely monitoring developments and advocating for a non-military resolution.
White House national security spokesperson John Kirby emphasized on Sunday that Israel cannot safely return its people to northern homes through an all-out war with Hezbollah or Iran. The statement came as Israel continued to strike targets in Lebanon, aiming to make northern areas safe from Hezbollah rocket fire.
Kirby stated that diplomacy, rather than military action, is the best course for ensuring the safety and sustainability of affected residents. The U.S. continues to engage with Israel on appropriate next steps regarding the conflict, he told CNN.
Lebanon's Health Ministry reported over 1,000 deaths and 6,000 injuries in the recent two weeks of conflict, with one-fifth of the population displaced. Despite differing tactical views, Kirby assured that U.S. support for Israel's security remains solid. Meanwhile, Iran's response to the escalating situation has been closely monitored.
