Five CRPF personnel, including an officer, sustained injuries in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast triggered by Naxals on Sunday in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, according to officials.

The blast took place around 7 am in the Tarrem police station area during a de-mining exercise conducted by the Central Reserve Police Force's (CRPF's) 153 battalion, said a police official. The squad was from the Chinnagelur CRPF camp, and the explosion occurred when they discovered a wire connected to a pressure IED.

The injured personnel, who suffered splinter injuries to their faces, eyes, and abdomen, were given initial medical treatment before being moved to Raipur, approximately 430 km away. The injured include CRPF Assistant Commandant Vaidya Sanket Devidas, Inspector Sanjay Kumar, and constables B Pavan Kalyan, Lochan Mahato, and Dhole Rajendra Ashruba. The CRPF is extensively deployed in Chhattisgarh for anti-Maoist operations.
