In a significant crackdown, Ballia railway station authorities arrested two men for allegedly transporting 825 illegal live cartridges and two country-made pistols. The apprehended individuals, Ranjeet Kumar and Rashid alias Lallan from Jaunpur district, were taken into custody at platform 2/3, confirmed Government Railway Police (GRP) Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Saviratna Gautam.

Gautam disclosed that Kumar and Rashid were in possession of 425 .315 bore pistol cartridges and 400 .32 bore pistol cartridges. During interrogation, the accused admitted to transporting the arms and ammunition from Jaunpur to Chhapra, Bihar via train for illicit distribution.

The accused are now facing stringent charges under section 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act, as a formal case has been lodged at Ballia police station, informed DSP Gautam.
