Iran's Pledge of Support: Tehran Vows Continued Resistance Against Israel
Iran's parliament speaker announced continued support for militant groups against Israel after the killing of Hezbollah's leader. Known as the Axis of Resistance, this alliance includes groups from Palestine, Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq, and Syria. Iranian officials warned the U.S. and Israel of repercussions, citing a dire regional situation.
In a significant declaration on Sunday, Iran's parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf emphasized that militant groups would persist in their confrontation with Israel, bolstered by Tehran's support. The proclamation came in the aftermath of Hezbollah's chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah's assassination, as reported by Iranian state media.
The so-called Axis of Resistance, an alliance fortified over decades with Iran's backing, encompasses the Palestinian Hamas, Lebanon's Hezbollah, Yemen's Houthis, and various Shi'ite Muslim armed entities in Iraq and Syria. Nasrallah's demise was confirmed by Hezbollah after an Israeli airstrike targeted their Beirut headquarters on Friday. However, the manner of his death remained unspecified.
Qalibaf affirmed Iran's unwavering commitment to assist the resistance, warning the United States of its complicity in these events and the inevitable repercussions. Echoing this sentiment, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi indicated that Israel would face consequences for its actions, noting the region's precarious situation. This statement was underscored by reports of the death of Iran Revolutionary Guards' deputy commander Abbas Nilforoushan in the same Israeli airstrikes.
