An eight-year-old girl kidnapped from South Delhi by a drug addict was rescued by the Delhi Police from a moving train in Bihar's Buxar district, an officer reported on Friday.

Rohit Kumar, 21, kidnapped the girl to extort money from her father for drugs. Arriving in Delhi as a labourer a few days earlier, he made several ransom calls to the girl's father, also a labourer. The father reported his daughter's abduction to the police on September 23.

An FIR was lodged, and an in-depth investigation was launched, involving CCTV footage analysis which identified Kumar. He later demanded a ransom of Rs 20,000. Police traced the ransom calls to a moving train heading towards Patna. Coordinating with the Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force, the accused was apprehended, and the girl was rescued. Kumar admitted to the crime, citing his drug addiction as the motive.
