Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud confirmed on Friday that additional judges will soon be appointed to the Bombay High Court, addressing its current staffing shortfall. Speaking during a hearing of an appeal against a Bombay High Court order, the Chief Justice emphasized the urgency of the matter.

Chief Justice Chandrachud made the remark while leading a bench that included Justice Manoj Misra. ''Wait for a few more days, you will get some judges to the Bombay HC,'' he assured, noting that the apex court collegium has made recommendations for new appointments, which are pending approval from the government.

The Bombay High Court currently has 66 sitting judges against a sanctioned strength of 94, resulting in 28 vacancies that contribute to the court's heavy workload. The collegium, comprising the Chief Justice, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, and Justice BR Gavai, has proposed the names of nine advocates for appointment to fill these vacancies.
