The Supreme Court on Friday directed the Rajasthan government to release pending salaries of retired government AYUSH doctors within a week. This follows their reinstatement after a high court verdict and raised questions about why they were given 'step-motherly' treatment.
The Rajasthan government had earlier challenged the high court's decision, which mandated a uniform retirement age for both allopathic and AYUSH doctors. The state had previously increased the retirement age for allopathic doctors from 60 to 62 years due to shortages.
The high court upheld that AYUSH doctors should also benefit from the extended retirement age. Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud demanded an explanation for the five-month delay in salary disbursal, ordering the immediate release of remunerations.
