Normal life was disrupted in Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts of Manipur on Friday due to a shutdown called by Kuki Zo organisations. The shutdown was a protest against the state government's claim that 900 Kuki militants would attack villages in Imphal Valley on September 28.
Educational institutions were closed in both Kuki-majority districts. While businesses remained open in Churachandpur, markets and the movement of private vehicles were restricted in Kangpokpi.
The Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum announced a total shutdown for Saturday. A rally was held in Kangpokpi to oppose the government's claim. Despite government retraction of the claim, security forces stayed vigilant in the area.
