Elon Musk Bends the Knee: X Seeks Reinstatement in Brazil Amid Misinformation Battle
Elon Musk's social media platform X has requested Brazil’s Supreme Court to lift its ban after halting misinformation spread. The ban followed Musk's defiance against judicial orders in a dispute led by Justice Alexandre de Moraes. X has now aligned with the court's demands, signaling a strategic pivot.
Elon Musk's social media platform X has made an official plea to Brazil's Supreme Court to lift its ban after complying with orders to stop the spread of misinformation. According to a document seen by Reuters, the platform's return is now in the hands of the court, with insiders predicting a resolution within days.
The request comes as X, one of Brazil's most significant markets, executed a series of steps to reconcile with the social media platform's longstanding adversary, Justice Alexandre de Moraes. Moraes, who has been active in combating misinformation, ordered the suspension of X's operations in the country back in August, causing Musk to close X's local offices.
This conflict escalated when Moraes also froze the accounts of another Musk venture, Starlink, leading Musk to denounce him as a dictator. However, recent developments indicate Musk's strategic pivot, as X appointed a local legal representative and blocked several accounts involved in a hate speech investigation, signalling a willingness to adhere to Brazil's regulations.
