Chaitanya Baghel, son of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, faced police questioning on Thursday in connection to the assault on a government college professor.

On July 19, Vinod Sharma, a professor at a government college, was attacked by six individuals while returning home in Old Bhilai. Sharma remains hospitalized following the assault.

The preliminary investigation linked Baghel to the incident, prompting his summoning to record a statement, confirmed Durg Superintendent of Police Jitendra Shukla.

'Chaitanya Baghel was questioned for over four hours at the Old Bhilai police station. His mobile phone was seized for forensic analysis, and he was allowed to leave afterward. So far, nine persons are implicated, with five under arrest and efforts ongoing to capture four others,' stated Shukla.

City Superintendent of Police Harish Patil revealed Baghel was summoned due to his alleged involvement in facilitating the accused's escape. Baghel's statement and mobile phone are crucial pieces of evidence.

Among those implicated, three key suspects are absconding. Baghel allegedly maintained contact with accused Praveen Sharma, seen at several Baghel family events. The former CM's daughter was also questioned, and her statement recorded.
