Police Urge Victims to Speak Out on Al Fayed Abuse Allegations
British police have urged anyone with allegations against former Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed to come forward. This comes after a BBC documentary revealed multiple instances of sexual abuse and rape by Al Fayed. The Metropolitan Police aim to investigate and prosecute any individuals involved, despite Al Fayed's death last year.
British police have called for anyone with allegations against former Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed to step forward. The call to action follows a BBC documentary that aired last week, which detailed instances of sexual abuse and rape by the late billionaire.
The documentary revealed that Al Fayed had sexually abused female staff at Harrods and threatened them to prevent complaints. It also highlighted the company's failure to act and its role in covering up abuse allegations during Al Fayed's ownership from 1985 to 2010.
Though Al Fayed died last year at age 94, London's Metropolitan Police stated they would investigate whether any other individuals could face criminal charges. Stephen Clayman, head of specialist crime at the Metropolitan Police, emphasized the importance of giving victims a voice and assured that all reports would be taken seriously. Lawyers representing the accusers have reported receiving over 150 new enquiries. Harrods, sold by Al Fayed in 2010, responded to the allegations by expressing its utter dismay.
