Facing backlash over Minister Vikramaditya Singh's announcement about mandatory name displays for street vendors, the Himachal Pradesh government clarified on Thursday that no such decision had been made.

Singh, the state's Public Works and Urban Development Minister, had informed the media on Wednesday that street vendors, especially those selling food items, would be required to display their identity cards at their shops. He said the decision was modeled after a policy in Uttar Pradesh.

However, the state issued a statement denying any official decision mandating street vendors to display nameplates or identification at their stalls.
