Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Thursday accused AIMIM leader Shoaib Jamai of inflaming public sentiment over the Sanjauli mosque issue in Shimla and demanded his immediate arrest.

Jamai sparked controversy by recording a video at the disputed Sanjauli mosque, proposing a PIL to question the legality of surrounding buildings. Speaking to the media, Thakur, now the leader of the opposition, questioned why Jamai was allowed to enter the mosque and make the video, asking what the administration was doing.

The video, which made rounds on social media, shows Jamai claiming that justice is for all and suggesting that the court would decide the legality of the mosque. He also argued that if the mosque was deemed illegal, other nearby high-rise buildings should face the same scrutiny. Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh and Sanjauli mosque committee president Mohammad Latif strongly criticized Jamai's actions, urging authorities to address attempts to escalate tensions and calling for legal adherence. The incident has fueled local demands for demolishing an unauthorized section of the mosque.
