Indictment Against NYC Mayor Eric Adams Unsealed Amid Turmoil

Federal prosecutors are set to unseal an indictment against New York City Mayor Eric Adams, culminating a long-running criminal investigation that has rattled the government of the United States' largest city.

The timing of Adams' potential arrest or self-surrender remains uncertain. A Reuters witness observed a federal government vehicle outside Gracie Mansion, Adams' official residence on the Upper East Side, early Thursday morning, and The New York Times reported that federal agents had conducted a search there.

Adams, a Democrat and the first NYC mayor to face criminal charges while in office, declared in a video statement on Wednesday night that he expects to be charged but maintains that the accusations are "entirely false, based on lies." The specific charges remain unknown, and a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney's office in Manhattan refused to comment. Adams vows to remain in office and fight the charges despite calls for his resignation from fellow Democrats.
