On Thursday, the Mumbai civic body announced a high-level investigation into the death of Vimal Anil Gaikwad, a 45-year-old woman who fell into a storm water drain following heavy rainfall.

The tragic incident took place at 9:20 PM on Wednesday near gate no. 8 of MIDC in Andheri East, according to the local police. Gaikwad was rushed to Cooper Hospital by the fire brigade and local authorities, where she was declared dead on arrival.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) released a statement on Thursday saying that a three-member committee, led by Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Zone 3) Devidas Kshirsagar, has been formed to investigate the incident. The committee, which also includes Mumbai fire brigade chief Ravindra Ambulgekar and Chief Engineer (Vigilance) Avinash Tambewagh, is expected to submit its findings within three days.
