The Indian Embassy in Beirut has issued a strong advisory for its nationals to avoid travel to Lebanon in light of escalating violence in the region. The embassy emphasized the urgency for those currently in Lebanon to exercise extreme caution and leave the country immediately.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported on Wednesday that approximately 200,000 people have been displaced in Lebanon since Hezbollah initiated rocket fire into northern Israel nearly a year ago, prompting Israeli retaliation. According to Lebanon's health minister, 51 individuals were killed and 223 wounded in Israeli airstrikes on Wednesday alone.
In a post on social media platform X, the Indian embassy reiterated its earlier advisory from August 1, 2024, urging Indian nationals to avoid traveling to Lebanon until further notice. The embassy also cautioned those still in the country to minimize their movements and stay in contact through the provided emergency contact details.
