The Karnataka BJP staged a protest on Thursday demanding Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's resignation after a Special Court ordered a Lokayukta police probe against him in a site allotment case.
Leader of Opposition R Ashoka and Legislative Council's Chalavadi Narayanaswamy led the demonstration at Vidhana Soudha, joined by several party lawmakers and leaders. Protesters held placards and chanted slogans calling for Siddaramaiah's resignation.
The Special Court's order came after the High Court upheld the Governor's sanction for an investigation into allegations of illegal site allotment to Siddaramaiah's wife by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA). The BJP has requested the investigation be handed over to the CBI for impartiality. Siddaramaiah has stated he will not resign and is ready to face the investigation.
It is alleged that compensatory sites were allotted to Siddaramaiah's wife in an upscale Mysuru region, raising questions about legality and property valuation. The controversial MUDA scheme allotted developed land to previous landowners, and disputes remain about the legality of the original land title.
