Days after alleging that 900 Kuki militants were poised to launch attacks on Imphal valley villages around September 28, the Manipur government has rescinded its statement, declaring the threat minimal and unsubstantiated.
In a joint statement, Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh and DGP Rajiv Singh clarified on Wednesday that the input regarding 900 trained Kuki militants from Myanmar planning to assault Meiteis had been verified but found unsubstantiated. They assured the public that security forces remain vigilant to protect lives and property and urged the community not to believe in rumors or unverified reports.
Earlier, N Geoffrey, Secretary to the Chief Minister, mentioned the initial intelligence was shared to aid the Police Department in developing actionable insights. However, it is now determined that the possibility of such attacks is remote. Manipur Congress MLA Th Lokeshwar had demanded clarity on the matter, indicating that the initial statement had caused panic. Singh noted that multiple hill districts are on high alert as a precautionary measure.
