The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered the immediate release of prominent YouTuber Savukku Shankar, who had been detained under the Tamil Nadu Goondas Act.
The decision came after the Tamil Nadu government informed the court that the detention order had been revoked based on the opinion of an advisory board.
Shankar, who was arrested on May 4 for alleged derogatory comments, was detained again on August 12 despite an earlier court order for his release. The high court had criticized the detention as a misuse of the Goondas Act.
