In a session on Wednesday, the Bombay High Court voiced serious concerns about the police shooting of Akshay Shinde, the accused in the Badlapur school sexual assault case, asserting that the incident could have been averted and underscoring the necessity for an impartial investigation.
The division bench, consisting of Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Prithviraj Chavan, profoundly questioned the procedures surrounding the shootout. While it did not impugn the police's integrity, the bench emphasized the urgency for clarity in the probe.
Furthermore, the court highlighted the importance of transparently addressing all aspects of the case. It directed an immediate transfer of all case files to the Maharashtra Crime Investigation Department (CID) and mandated preservation of evidence, including CCTV footage and call data records, to ensure a comprehensive investigation free from doubts and speculation.
