The National Green Tribunal has launched an inquiry into the alleged illegal and excessive pruning of trees in Paschim Vihar, West Delhi, following a formal complaint. A panel has been established to investigate the incident.

The complaint claims that more than 250 trees were heavily pruned or pollarded illegally by contractors, allegedly in collusion with officials from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the forest department. This activity reportedly occurred between February and March across multiple blocks in the area.

NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava's bench noted serious allegations, including violations of a 2023 Delhi High Court order that bans tree pruning without authorization. A joint committee is set to examine the site and identify responsible parties, with a report due in two months.
