Ex-BJP leader and former Uttarakhand Cooperative Dairy Federation administrator Mukesh Bora was arrested on Wednesday from Uttar Pradesh. Bora, accused of raping a 36-year-old woman and molesting her minor daughter, was apprehended in Rampur district, according to Nainital's Senior Superintendent of Police Prahlad Narayan Meena. A multi-state manhunt had been underway for the past 23 days, with police teams deployed in UP, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Punjab.
Bora, who faces rape charges and multiple counts under the POCSO Act, had been absconding before his arrest. Police suspected he was receiving assistance from contractors supplying milk to the dairy federation. Authorities had been diligently tracking Bora's movements to bring him to justice.
The allegations stem from an incident where Bora reportedly raped the woman under the pretense of offering her a permanent job, while also molesting her minor daughter. Following the charges, Bora was expelled from the BJP and relieved from his duties at the dairy federation. His driver, Kamal Belwal, has also been implicated in the case.
