A day after the Karnataka High Court upheld the governor's approval for an investigation against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Wednesday slammed the BJP, accusing it of adopting 'insidious ways' to destabilize and topple elected governments.
Sibal asserted that governors are now becoming authorities through whose actions governments can be 'dethroned.' The high court dismissed Siddaramaiah's petition challenging Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot's sanction for a probe into alleged irregularities in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority land allotment case.
Sibal, in a post on X, criticized the BJP for allegedly luring MLAs and using fear tactics involving ED and CBI. During a press conference, Sibal stated that the governor's role in sanctioning prosecutions is not clearly defined in the Constitution, arguing that the new trend of governors issuing notices makes them quasi-judicial authorities.
