The West Bengal unit of the Congress launched a two-day sit-in protest demanding expedited justice for the RG Kar Hospital rape-murder victim, starting Wednesday in Kolkata's Esplanade area.
Newly appointed West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC) president Subhankar Sarkar and former president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury joined numerous party workers, both women and men, in the demonstration.
Street plays were organized while slogans echoed across the protest site, orchestrated by the central Kolkata district Congress under Chowdhury's directive. Sarkar, in his first press conference as WBPCC president, pledged on Sunday that the party would ensure stringent law and order if voted into power, eliminating the anxieties parents face regarding their daughters' safety.
